What Is Photovoltaic Solar Power?

Photovoltaic solar power, (PV) is the most common form of solar energy in the world.  PV solar panels are prefabricated out of semiconductor devices derived from very pure silicon that when exposed to the solar power from the sun they generate electricity.  Semiconductor materials has uncommon properties, they do not conduct energy like metals and are not insulators like most minerals or plastics.  They have an atypical electrical property enables them to convert energy from the sun to electricity.   The actually PV solar panel is has a surface charged with extra electrons, and a second surface that has positively charged atoms missing electrons. Small arrangements, known as modules, can be used to power electronics or appliances like a battery would. Massive groups of PV cells can be used to build solar energy arrays capable of creating enormous amounts of PV solar energy. Depending on the size of the array and the amount of sunlight, solar energy systems can create enough power to run homes, factories, or cities.  PV solar power produces no pollution does not create carbon dioxide or produce any greenhouse gases.

Many solar energy scientists believe that solar power is of vital importance to society’s survival. Today, the world is largely dependent on energy that comes from fossil fuels like oil and coal. These fuels are a product of the decomposition of organisms that lived millions of years ago and are acquirable in limited quantities.  PV solar power along with wind, hydroelectricity, biofuel, algae and geothermal power are some of the most promising forms of energy our planet has.
